History
A Firm Foundation
When the University of Florida began admitting women in 1947, Tri Delta took the initiative in establishing a chapter at UF the very next school year on September 11, 1948. It was one of the first four sororities founded. The first rush yielded fourteen pledge-members, which was the largest number of any of the other chapters. Since our founding, Alpha Psi has nurtured and sustained young women who have become successful all over the country. From that first year the Alpha Psi chapter has continued to grow stronger and stronger each year and continued to bring in more and more amazing sisters as well.
For more than 50 years, it has been apparent that Delta Delta Delta, and the Alpha Psi Chapter in particular, is dedicated to:
v Impacting and improving the lives of women
v Encouraging leadership in the classroom, on campus and in the community
v Fostering friendships that last a lifetime
v Providing a chapter house that plays a significant role as a home away from home, living and learning center and proud symbol of our fraternity
v Playing a significant role in the personal and professional development of its members in today’s competitive world
Values learned through the Alpha Psi chapter have greatly enhanced each sister’s personal and professional growth. Tri Delta leaves a lasting impression on women from various backgrounds, encouraging each member to excel in whatever path they choose.
Looking Ahead at the Future
In January of 1948 a house was chosen and redecorated to fit the chapter’s needs. The original Tri Delta house served many great years to the hundreds of sisters that walked through its halls. With our chapter looking towards the future though it was decided a few
years ago that the Alpha Psi chapter was in need of a new house. With our proud history our chapter and Executive Office knew it was time to set the stage for the next century of sisters who will soon be walking in new hallways but would be following familiar footsteps.
While the original Alpha Psi chapter house proved to be an amazing place for our sisters to build lifelong friendships and grow through the years, it was apparent that a new facility was needed for the future needs of our members. The Tri Delta Executive Office created exciting plans to build a new house for our chapter and after a two-year process the house was completed in the fall of 2007.
The new facility provides a state-of-the-art house. It has an emphasis on providing comfortable suite-style living, new and innovative technology, advanced safety, ample study space and plenty of room for the chapter to grow for many years to come. With our new house we hope to create a high-quality, durable facility that will expand and enhance the educational, personal and professional experiences offered in being a member of Tri Delta at the University of Florida.
This is a very exciting time for our chapter and every sister is looking forward to the new memories that will be made in our new home, while not forgetting the foundation in which we were originally built upon.
