Delta’s Giving Back

libphoto_1211508372Our National Philanthropy

Tri Delta supports St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a facility for children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.  Recently, the Tri Delta’s executive office committed our chapters nationwide to raising $10 million in 10 years to help build a Patient Care Floor in the New St. Jude Chilli’s Care Center.

In doing our part to help St. Jude our philanthropy, Triple Play, is a softball tournament that raises thousands of dollars each year.  In order to make Triple Play as successful as it is sisters team up to “coach” different teams made of up fraternities and other organizations on campus.  Our Triple Play directors take great pride in making sure to educate all of our members on the benefits and worthy cause in which we are all helping raise money for.  Our chapter takes great pride in helping St. Jude and making a difference in the many lives of children that are changed by the money donated.  This past year we met and surpassed our goal by raising over $25,000 for St. Jude.

Taking part in the Greek community

Within Tri Delta we fully believe that in being apart of the Greek community at UF it is important to participate in other chapter philanthropic events.  Throughout both the fall and spring semester our calendar is full of Greek and other community events in which our sisters take time to participate.

We have a great balance within our chapter in which enough of our sisters participate in each event to not require each sister to have to always give time to everything scheduled.  This allows for our sisters to take part in giving back to the community in a fun environment but also keep on track with their academics and other commitments.  In many cases this is a great time for groups of friends to come together and have a great time raising money for great causes, which proves to be yet another way in which our sisters can bond.

Due to the fact that our philanthropies are so successful, we are able to donate to other charities as well, including the March of Dimes, Children’s Miracle Network, American Cancer Society and American Red Cross. Tri Delta was named Alachua County’s Local Hero in 2002 for donating over $5,000 to the American Red Cross after fires destroyed homes of several Alachua County families.

Aside from our own philanthropies and those of other chapters, Tri Delta is involved in many service activities, including Hope Lodge, the Boys and Girls club, Meals on Wheels, The Ronald McDonald House, 5 Points of Life Marathon, and Best Buddies not to mention sisters who give their own time each week to various organizations within the community.
